origins story

These exquisite gift baskets are meticulously crafted by the indigenous Piapoco women, who live along the banks of the Orinoco River in the Amazon region of Venezuela. The Piapoco skillfully harvest fronds from the moriche palm (Mauritia flexuosa), a native species of the Amazon. Employing an intricate technique, they carefully cut the fronds into strands, boil and dry them to create the fiber that the women weave into these stunning baskets with a natural seed-button closure. These baskets are works of art. Your basket purchase provides crucial support to the Piapoco indigenous people. You can repurpose your basket for storage, picnics, or display.
