I am filled with joy to announce that our White Chocolate Lemon & Lemon Salt bar won World Gold at the International Chocolate Awards @chocawards ! I have a strong personal connection to the flavors in this bar. When I was young, the first lemon dessert I ever tried was my grandmother’s lemon meringue pie. I loved the tart and sweet flavor of the lemon curd that was perfectly balanced by the fluffy meringue when eaten together. As a teen I worked as a cook at an Italian pizzeria where we made everything from scratch. I squeezed the lemons for the lemonade, made the homemade cannoli mixture adding a touch of lemon zest to it, and also served the espresso with a lemon rind on the side. I learned how a touch of lemon can add just the pizazz needed to enliven the taste buds. Years later I met my husband who is Sicilian American. At a family picnic his cousin brought Italian lemon cookies, a delicate lemon cookie with lemon icing on top. To this day I still think about those cookies. I hoped to recreate the familiar lemon dessert flavors in a white chocolate.
For years the Japanese chocolatiers have made the most unthinkable combinations in the flavored and inclusion white chocolate category at the International Chocolate Awards, while our white chocolate with lemon & lemon salt bar slowly started gaining traction over the past 4 years. It won a Gold at the Americas semifinals in 2017, World Bronze in 2019, and this year a World Gold after winning an Americas Silver. I am so thrilled that this year we won the category for the USA. This bar also has a newly designed package for 2021 with the same delicious taste!
