Special! Mother's Day Gift Basket
This past August, I traveled to the Amazon region of Colombia, called Orinoquia, 3- hours down the Orinoco River to the village of Sarrapia, Colombia in a high-conflict zone to meet with the Piaroa indigenous people. My aim is to build a market of non-timber forest products, such as cacao and artisanal handicrafts, from the Amazon region to support sustainable livelihoods of indigenous women and protect the rainforest from deforestation. I commissioned the women to make round gift baskets with a lid to hold our chocolate.
This beautiful basket is a one-of-a-kind gift with:
- Our 10-piece Bourbon Caramel tin
- 2 chocolate bars - we chose our new Puerto Rico 70% dark and our Lavender Dark Milk 60% chocolate (but you may substitute)
- 2 of our homemade fudgey brownies made with our Sierra Nevada, Colombia dark chocolate
- 2 of our homemade chocolate chip biscotti dipped in chocolate
Weaving Art...
These handicrafts are unique works of art.
Using plant materials collected in the rainforest, these crafts are hand woven by the Piaroa indigenous women in the village of Sarrapia, along the Orinoco River in Colombia. Their craft, unique to the Piaroa, was passed on from their ancestor. These pieces are the last artisanal remnants of a culture at risk of being forgotten.
Weaving Thoughts...
These handicrafts are sustenance.
Your purchase empowers women to support their family and preserve their traditional culture. It also promotes non-timber forest products as a sustainable livelihood for inhabitants of the rainforest.
-You may leave a note in the "note to seller" section at checkout to specify all dark chocolate or all milk chocolate or specific chocolate bars to substitute. You may also include a note there for the recipient and we will write it on a card for them.
-Each basket has a different seed design on the lid.
-Subtle variations in the shape are a testament to the authenticity of the Piaroa handcrafted process and their use of natural materials.
