Special! Piaroa Easter Basket
This past August, I traveled to the region of Colombia, called Orinoquia just to the north of the Amazon river basin. We took a small wooden boat, 3 hours down the Orinoco River to the village of Sarrapia, Colombia, nestled within in a high-conflict zone near the Venezuelan border, to meet with the Piaroa indigenous people. My aim is to build a market of non-timber forest products, such as cacao and artisanal handicrafts, from the Amazon region to support sustainable livelihoods of indigenous women and protect the rainforest from deforestation.
This beautiful round basket with a lid is filled with our solid chocolate bunny family for Easter.

Weaving Art
These handicrafts are unique works of art.
Using plant materials collected in the rainforest, these crafts are hand woven by the Piaroa indigenous women in the village of Sarrapia, along the Orinoco River in Colombia. Their craft, unique to the Piaroa, was passed on from their ancestor. These pieces are the last artisanal remnants of a culture at risk of being forgotten.
