Ultimate Valentine Chocolate Heart-filled Basket
This past August, I traveled to the Amazon region of Colombia, called Orinoquia, 3 hours down the Orinoco River to the village of Sarrapia, Colombia in a high-conflict zone to meet with the Piaroa indigenous people. My aim is to build a market of non-timber forest products, such as cacao and artisanal handicrafts, from the Amazon region to support sustainable livelihoods of indigenous women and protect the rainforest from deforestation. I commissioned the women to make round gift baskets with a lid to hold our chocolate.
This beautiful basket is a one-of-a-kind gift with:
- Our 8-piece Valentine Bonbon Collection - broken into 2 boxes of 4 hearts
- 10-piece tin of solid chocolate hearts - milk chocolate
- 2 ganache hearts (champagne & port)
- 1 solid vanilla white chocolate heart with dried tart cherries on the back
- 2 heart-shaped lollipops - 1 milk and 1 dark chocolate
These handicrafts are unique works of art.
Using plant materials collected in the rainforest, these crafts are hand woven by the Piaroa indigenous women in the village of Sarrapia, along the Orinoco River in Colombia. Their craft, unique to the Piaroa, was passed on from their ancestor. These pieces are the last artisanal remnants of a culture at risk of being forgotten.
These handicrafts are sustenance.
Your purchase empowers women to support their family and preserve their traditional culture. It also promotes non-timber forest products as a sustainable livelihood for inhabitants of the rainforest.
-You may leave a note in the note to seller section at checkout to specify all dark chocolate or all milk chocolate for the lollipops and heart tins. You may also include a note there for the recipient and we will write it on a card for them.
-Each basket has a different seed design on the lid.
-Subtle variations in the shape are a testament to the authenticity of the Piaroa handcrafted process and their use of natural materials.
